Hello, my name is Margarita Romero or Maggie and I currently attend Central Washington University where I study Mechanical Engineering Technology. I am originally from Sunnyside, Washington where I attended Sunnyside High School.

I grew up in a Hispanic household and community where the community was very impoverished and me being LGBT was not accepted. In Middle School, I was put into a STEM class where I first learned bout engineering and how it can help communities. From there I was inspired to be a Mechanica Engineer and I engaged myself in robotics and TSA or the Technology Student Association where I competed in Animatronics, Systems Control, Webmasters, and many more. STEM was a way to find a family that accepted me being LGBT and encouraged me to follow my dreams. My goal is to use my engineering skills to help build up the communities that I belong to from my STEM education, the Hispanic community, and my LGBT community. I see engineering as a way to empower and enrich communities and to serve public needs.
